May 2009 Edition

IT'S ALMOST HERE!

Join us for the "Terror from Beneath the Earth" world premiere on Wednesday, May 20th, 2009 (7:00 PM) at the Heights Theatre in Columbia Heights, Minnesota!

The event is open to the public and the price of admission is only $5.00 per person. This is your chance to experience the film before the rest of the world, and enjoy a program complete with live Wurlitzer music, hand-picked era-appropriate newsreels, classic trailers, appearances by most (if not all) of the cast and crew, free cake and autographs! Plus, don't forget your camera because we will be expecting a visit from the actual creature from the film! DVDs, posters and other memorabilia will also be on sale at the event!

Advance tickets to the premiere are AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE at SaintEuphoria.com, the online home of the films of Christopher R. Mihm! Advance tickets cost $6.00 and include admission, as well as an individually-numbered collector's ticket! (The extra dollar covers shipping & handling.) Collector's tickets are only available while our quickly dwindling supplies last!

NOTE: We are limiting the number of advance tickets available to make sure there are at least a small number of tickets available the day of the event, but purchasing advance tickets is the ONLY WAY to make absolutely sure you'll get in! Last year's world premiere of "Cave Women on Mars" sold out quickly and we did have to turn people away at the door!

The WCCO Mighty Wurlitzer organ will be played live from 6:30 to 7:30, so get there early! Also, don't forget that this IS a big movie premiere! Don't be afraid to dress up in your Sunday, 1950's or glamorous best! The film is safe for most kids (very-little-to-no questionable language, no extreme violence and a 1950's-appropriate bat monster) but very small children will most likely be frightened.

CURRENT NEWS

With the world premiere just weeks away, we present the final two character images from "Terror from Beneath the Earth." Last month, we caught a glimpse of the last two major characters in the film, Stan Johnson (Dan Sjerven) and Sheriff George Elliott (Justen Overlander). This month we finish off with actor Michael Kaiser's OTHER role besides the man in the "radioactive creature" suit, Deputy Hayes, and returning favorite Julie Ann Saint Marie-Jackson (introduced in 2007's "It Came From Another World!"), again portrayed by the talented Shannon McDonough.

Lastly, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm and long-time collaborator Josh Craig have once again teamed up to begin work on the next 1950's-style masterpiece: "Destination: Outer Space!" Best described as a grand science fiction epic, "Destination: Outer Space" follows the character of Captain Jackson (first introduced in "Cave Women on Mars") on his continuing adventures in outer space! Pre-production on the film has already begun with an eye toward a 2010 release. More details in next month's newsletter!

CLASSIC MOVIE OF THE MONTH

I Married a Monster from Outer Space (1958)
Directed by Gene Fowler, Jr..
Starring Tom Tryon and Gloria Talbott.

After an oddly emotionless first year of marriage, a small-town housewife (played beautifully by the too-talented-for-this-genre Gloria Talbott) begins to grow suspicious of her unusually distant husband. Of course, space aliens from a dying world are involved, taking over the bodies of the town's men for the purposes of repopulating their species. Never feeling tired or overly clichéd, this little gem of a film borrows heavily from other great 1950's sci-fi films like the original "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and "Invaders from Mars!" The special effects are surprisingly innovative and effective as long as you overlook the part where the aliens' true form is revealed. I don't want to give too much away, but it left me inexplicably wanting fruit-salad-infused Jell-O. All in all, a worthy surprise from the golden age of creature features!  — Christopher R. Mihm
