CURRENT NEWS
To add a little extra Mihmiverse-related fun to the world premiere of "Demon with the Atomic Brain," The Rock Monsters, the official curling team of the Mihmiverse, is offering a rare chance to learn how to play the sport with members of the team at the Four Seasons Curling Club!

Writer/director Christopher R. Mihm (skip), Michael Kaiser (vice skip), and Stephanie Mihm (lead) will personally instruct you how to play and understand the game, including how to deliver a stone, how to sweep (and why) and a little basic strategy! After a short training session, you'll even get to play a truncated game DIRECTLY ON THE ICE on a team with your choice of skip (captain): writer/director Christopher R. Mihm or Mihmiverse Monster-of-all-trades Michael Kaiser!

Everything you will need, including access to brooms, sliders, a sheet of ice on which to play and rocks to throw will be provided. All you'll need to participate are CLEAN athletic shoes (preferably without eyelets or metal on top, as they may scratch the ice) and clothing appropriate for a 45° ice rink and which allow for freedom of movement (you may be required to squat and lunge, and therefore, blue jeans are NOT recommended). ALSO, curling is an adaptive sport so, if you are unable to squat, you will be allowed to deliver stones using a "delivery stick!"

IMPORTANT! There are only six slots available for this event! Reserve your space NOW or risk missing out on this exciting opportunity!

The Four Seasons Curling Club is an official training site for U.S. Olympic Curling and is located at 9250 Lincoln Street Northeast in Minneapolis, MN. You may even see an Olympian or U.S. team-member at the club!

CLASSIC MOVIE OF THE MONTH
4D Man (1959)
Directed by Irving S. Yeaworth, Jr.
Starring Robert Lansing and Lee Meriwether

When a failed research scientist introduces his older brother (a far more successful research scientist) to a seemingly-impossible experiment involving pushing solid objects through one another without damaging either, it is revealed that the secret to its success is equally proportionate to the brain power of the man conducting said experiment. Thus, the smarter, more successful (though emotionally colder) brother pulls it off with shocking results: he inherits the ability to walk through solid walls! Unfortunately, his new found superpower causes him to age prematurely, and only by stealing life energy from other people (and killing them in the process) can he survive long enough to stave off encroaching madness. Presented in color, it features excellent direction and superb acting for a film of its caliber. The special effects are sparse, but presented well. The movie also features a unique, jazzy soundtrack that gives it a flavor all its own—unlike any normally found in this type of film. Overall, a surprisingly good film that's worth seeing!

IMPORTANT MOMENTS IN SCIENCE with DR. BOB TESLA
This month, I have an important, but sad, Moment In Science. In this month, years ago, we lost an animal to extinction forever. On September 7th, 1936, the last known Tasmanian Tiger died and the thylacine went extinct ... maybe.

The thylacine, also known as the Tasmanian Tiger or Tasmanian Wolf, was a marsupial that lived in Australia and, of course, Tasmania. It looked like a large dog with an odd tail and tiger stripes on its hindquarters. It had a very odd gait that kept it from running quickly without breaking into hopping on its hind legs. They were the weird animals that would be considered adorable dorks of Tasmania ... until it opened its jaws wide! It had the ability to open its mouth an incredible 80 to 90 degrees. Imagine seeing an adorkable striped dog walking up to you and suddenly it had a flip top head with rows of sharp teeth! This animal was a major predator! This led to a conflict with the apex predator of the world, humans.

Nineteenth century farmers weren't happy with the Tasmanian Tigers killing sheep and poultry and had the Tasmanian government put a bounty on their heads. By 1928, these animals had become increasingly rare. In 1930, the last known thylacine was shot and killed in the wild. And then, in 1936, they were all gone when the last one, Benjamin, died at the Hobart Zoo and the world lost a unique and beautiful animal. Or did we?

There have been many unconfirmed sightings over the decades since the thylacine's extinction leading some people to hope this shy animal is still around. There have even been pictures and videos of some sightings that appear to be hopeful evidence! To add another wrinkle to this extinction story, there is some talk of using some samples of the thylacine's DNA to clone it and bring it back! It seems, one way or another, SCIENCE will not let the Tasmanian Tiger stay extinct!

Join us on September 9th at the Gateway Film Center in Columbus, OH for the next installment of Midnight Monster Movies with Dr. Bob!
