THE WANDERING CREATURE WORLD PREMIERE!
"The Wandering Creature (and Other Tales)" World Premiere
August 5, 2026
Doors open at 6:15PM, movie starts at 7:30PM
Tickets: $12 in advance / $15 at the door (if available)

The first film of the third decade of the Mihmiverse, "The Wandering Creature (and Other Tales)," is ready for its big debut!

The 21st Mihmiverse film in as many years will hold its in-theater world premiere at the Mounds Theatre in St. Paul, Minnesota! This is the first time a live Mihmiverse premiere event has been held somewhere other than The Heights Theater but, with the venue change, a Mihmiverse world premiere will include the opportunity to purchase Mihmiverse-themed adult beverages to enjoy during the show! (You must be at least 21 to purchase or consume alcoholic beverages. Please drink responsibly!)

Attendees will enjoy an evening of retro-inspired cinematic fun complete with hand-picked, era-appropriate newsreels, classic trailers, appearances by most (if not all) of the cast and crew, autographs, photo opportunities with creatures from the film, a silent auction and more! DVDs, Blu-Rays, posters, exclusive collectibles, and other merchandise will be on sale!

In another break from tradition, collector's tickets will NOT BE mailed. Instead, they will be passed out AT THE DOOR. These collectible, individually-numbered tickets will be given on a first-come, first-served basis, so make sure to get there early to guarantee you get one. Collector's tickets will be limited to 100 pieces and, once they're gone, they're GONE.

IMPORTANT! Interest in this event is EXTREMELY HIGH and it is ALMOST sold out! Because of this, we CANNOT guarantee the availability of day-of admission tickets. If the event sells out through advance sales, no tickets will be available for purchase at the door.

The Mounds Theatre is located at 1029 Hudson Road in St. Paul, MN.

Writer/director Christopher R. Mihm takes a stab (pun intended) at an anthology movie in the vein of "Twilight Zone: The Movie," "Trilogy of Terror," and "Creepshow," albeit in his signature retro-B-movie style! In a series of linked, short tales-of-horror, an unmanned spacecraft returning from the asteroid Vesta breaks-up upon re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere and scatters sample containers across Phantom Lake County! Not-so-unexpectedly (particularly for a Mihmiverse movie), contact with the mysterious, otherworldly contents of these canisters create a whole host of terrifying creatures, like mushroom monsters, killer garden gnomes, and more! Can the local population survive such shocking encounters, or will this be the end of all life in Phantom Lake County!?

The disc contains a high quality digital transfer of the film and several exclusive special features, including a blooper reel, two photo galleries, feature-length commentary with writer/director Christopher R. Mihm, English subtitles, and more!

Feature Run Time: 1 hour, 12 minutes. Black & White, Widescreen, NOT RATED.

THE TRIVIA CORNER
Abbott & Costello !

From the 1930s into the 1960s, the comedy team of Bud Abbott & Lou Costello were everywhere: burlesque, vaudeville, radio, television, and, of course, movies. In many of their films, they met some pretty spooky characters.

Below is an accurate list of their encounters... with one exception. Your mission: name the fake film! Then watch one of the real ones on the list and enjoy the cheesy fun!

1. "Hold That Ghost" (1941)
2. "Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein" (1948)
3. "Abbott & Costello Meet Dracula" (1950)
4. "Abbott & Costello Meet The Invisible Man" (1951)
5. "Abbott & Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde " (1953)
6. "Abbott & Costello Meet The Mummy" (1955)

BLAST FROM THE PAST
In this column, we dig through old issues of the Mihmiverse Monthly and Phantom Lake Almanac (which was the original name of this newsletter!) and present interesting bits and pieces from the past! After all, this newsletter has been around since the release of "The Monster of Phantom Lake" back in 2006, so there's a LOT to choose from!

Since this is a premiere month, we decided to look back at the month prior to the "premiere that did not happen." It was March 2020 and "The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us" was ready to debut in April. However, the Covid-19 pandemic had other plans, and everything shut down into quarantine a few weeks after this newsletter was published. The following was the first story featured in the CURRENT NEWS section.

THAT WHICH LURKS IN THE DARK IS COMING TOGETHER!

With the impending release of "The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us," principal photography of next year's Mihmiverse film, "That Which Lurks in the Dark" continues! Check out the photo below to get your first look at the members of the Phantom Lake Lonely Hearts Club, where you'll see a collection of recognizable faces in roles both familiar and new!

The group (left to right) includes Michelle Makie (last seen as one of Iordanoglou's wives in "Demon with the Atomic Brain"), Thom Gladhill (who you'll soon get to know as Deputy O'Donnell in "The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us"), Kira Pontiff (Faith in "Guns of the Apocalypse"), Tyler Haines (once again portraying his character introduced in "Demon with the Atomic Brain"), and Rachel Grubb (back as Betty from "Queen of Snakes").

Principal photography of "That Which Lurks in the Dark" is scheduled to continue into the late Spring and, should everything go as planned, the film will be released in early 2021!

EDITORIAL NOTE: Everything did not go as planned. Production of "That Which Lurks in the Dark" was officially canceled in April 2021. A novelization of the abandoned film's screenplay debuted in 2023 and is available for purchase at Amazon.
CLASSIC MOVIE OF THE MONTH
Breathless (1961)
Directed by Jean-Luc Godard
Starring Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg

A young criminal named Michel, who thinks of himself as some sort of Humphrey Bogart-esque "cool guy," kills a cop and goes on the run. In Paris, he meets a young American woman named Patricia, and proceeds to hide out in her apartment, smoke a lot of cigarettes, and make copious amounts of love to her. The two speak in tautological non-sequiturs and radiate tragically hip, devil-may-care attitude. Patricia eventually starts to suspect something is off about Michel, and that's when things get extremely interesting!

"Breathless" (original French title: "À Bout de Souffle") is considered by many to be one of the greatest films of all time, and is a sterling example of French New Wave cinema. Director Jean-Luc Godard wrote the script at the same time as filming took place, leaving the actors and crew in the dark most of the time as to what was coming next. Though it's a narrative feature, Godard filmed it more like a documentary and used natural lighting throughout, something that hadn't really been done before! The final product is a masterpiece of French New Wave cinema and introduced novel filming and editing techniques that are now commonplace in modern moviemaking! The film itself is entertaining, somewhat strange, and extremely French (in a good way). It even served as an inspiration for one of the story segments featured in the new Mihmiverse anthology film, "The Wandering Creature (and Other Tales)!" Highly recommended!
