Writer/director Christopher R. Mihm takes a stab (pun intended) at an anthology movie in the vein of "Twilight Zone: The Movie," "Trilogy of Terror," and "Creepshow," albeit in his signature retro-B-movie style! In a series of linked, short tales-of-horror, an unmanned spacecraft returning from the asteroid Vesta breaks-up upon re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere and scatters sample containers across Phantom Lake County! Not-so-unexpectedly (particularly for a Mihmiverse movie), contact with the mysterious, otherworldly contents of these canisters create a whole host of terrifying creatures, like mushroom monsters, killer garden gnomes, and more! Can the local population survive such shocking encounters, or will this be the end of all life in Phantom Lake County!?
The disc contains a high quality digital transfer of the film and several exclusive special features, including a blooper reel, two photo galleries, feature-length commentary with writer/director Christopher R. Mihm, English subtitles, and more!
Feature Run Time: 1 hour, 12 minutes. Black & White, Widescreen, NOT RATED.

Abbott & Costello !
From the 1930s into the 1960s, the comedy team of Bud Abbott & Lou Costello were everywhere: burlesque, vaudeville, radio, television, and, of course, movies. In many of their films, they met some pretty spooky characters.
Below is an accurate list of their encounters... with one exception. Your mission: name the fake film! Then watch one of the real ones on the list and enjoy the cheesy fun!
1. "Hold That Ghost" (1941)
2. "Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein" (1948)
3. "Abbott & Costello Meet Dracula" (1950)
4. "Abbott & Costello Meet The Invisible Man" (1951)
5. "Abbott & Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde " (1953)
6. "
Abbott & Costello Meet The Mummy" (1955)

In this column, we dig through old issues of the
Mihmiverse Monthly and
Phantom Lake Almanac (which was the original name of this newsletter!) and present interesting bits and pieces from the past! After all, this newsletter has been around since the release of "
The Monster of Phantom Lake" back in 2006, so there's a
LOT to choose from!
Since this is a premiere month, we decided to look back at the month prior to the "premiere that did not happen." It was March 2020 and "
The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us" was ready to debut in April. However, the Covid-19 pandemic had other plans, and everything shut down into quarantine a few weeks after this newsletter was published. The following was the first story featured in the
CURRENT NEWS section.
CLASSIC MOVIE OF THE MONTH
Breathless (1961)
Directed by
Jean-Luc GodardStarring
Jean-Paul Belmondo and
Jean Seberg
A young criminal named Michel, who thinks of himself as some sort of Humphrey Bogart-esque "cool guy," kills a cop and goes on the run. In Paris, he meets a young American woman named Patricia, and proceeds to hide out in her apartment, smoke a lot of cigarettes, and make copious amounts of love to her. The two speak in tautological non-sequiturs and radiate tragically hip, devil-may-care attitude. Patricia eventually starts to suspect something is off about Michel, and that's when things get extremely interesting!
"
Breathless" (original French title: "
À Bout de Souffle") is considered by many to be one of the greatest films of all time, and is a sterling example of French New Wave cinema. Director Jean-Luc Godard wrote the script at the same time as filming took place, leaving the actors and crew in the dark most of the time as to what was coming next. Though it's a narrative feature, Godard filmed it more like a documentary and used natural lighting throughout, something that hadn't really been done before! The final product is a masterpiece of French New Wave cinema and introduced novel filming and editing techniques that are now commonplace in modern moviemaking! The film itself is entertaining, somewhat strange, and extremely French (in a good way). It even served as an inspiration for one of the story segments featured in the new Mihmiverse anthology film, "
The Wandering Creature (and Other Tales)!" Highly recommended!
