The 2026 Mihmiverse film, "The Wandering Creature (and Other Tales)," is finally DONE!
 |
At the end of last month, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm put the finishing touches on his new movie and, after watching it with some of his most trusted "cinematic advisors"his children, all of whom have grown up in the Mihmiversehe signed off on the final edit.
In addition, he was able to design the film's official poster (seen here), which isn't much of a departure from the temporary one he created when the project was announced back in April of 2025! He promises the trailer won't be too far behind!
ALSO, we've finally learned some information about the film's world premiere event!
First, it will be the first live premiere to take place at a venue other than The Heights Theater, which is now under new management. The new owners have raised rental prices to the point that it is no longer feasible for an event to be held there. Whereas this feels like a loss and, in some ways, it is, if the Mihmiverse is to continue, it must evolve with the times.
Contracts are still being signed and deposits are being put down on the new location, but we have been given permission to reveal that it is the Mounds Theatre in St. Paul, Minnesota!
The Mounds Theatre was built in 1922 as a venue for silent movies and live entertainment. Over 100 years later, the theatre brings that same spirit to the Dayton's Bluff area of Minnesota's capitol city! AND, in a first for a Mihmiverse premiere, the event venue offers a bar with a full liquor license!
Second, the date of the world premiere event is tentatively set for Wednesday, August 5th, 2026! Since the Mounds Theatre is as much a performance space as movie theatre, with no film(s) screening before the world premiere starts, it will allow for attendees to come in earlier than before! Doors will open at 6:00pm (not 6:30), and the film will start at 7:00pm (a half hour earlier than in the past).
Much of this information may be subject to change, but we have been assured that exact details will be made available within weeks of the publication of this newsletter. We promise that once everything is set in stone, advance tickets will go on sale!
We hope, as we ring in the THIRD DECADE of the Mihmiverse, to see you at the world premiere of "The Wandering Creature (and Other Tales)!"
THE WANDERING CREATURE (AND OTHER TALES)!
In the next great Mihmiverse film, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm takes a stab (pun intended) at an anthology movie in the vein of "
Twilight Zone: The Movie," "
Trilogy of Terror," and "
Creepshow," albeit in his signature retro-B-movie style! In a series of linked, short tales-of-horror, an unmanned spacecraft returning from the asteroid Vesta breaks-up upon re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere and scatters sample containers across Phantom Lake County! Not-so-unexpectedly (particularly for a Mihmiverse movie), contact with the mysterious, otherworldly contents of these canisters create a whole host of terrifying creatureslike mushroom monsters, killer garden gnomes, and more! Can the local population survive such shocking encounters, or will this be the end of all life in Phantom Lake County!?
This is the first (and most likely
ONLY) Mihmiverse anthology, and consists of four separate story segments: "
The Hand That Wouldn't Die," "
Gnome!," "
Panic at the Hot Dog Festival," and "
La Créature Errante."

In this column, we'll be digging through old issues of the
Mihmiverse Monthly and
Phantom Lake Almanac (which was the original name of this newsletter!) and presenting interesting bits and pieces from the past! After all, this newsletter has been around since the release of "
The Monster of Phantom Lake" back in 2006, so there's a
LOT to choose from!
For most of calendar year 2012, actress Sid Korpi, who is best known for playing Administrator Ripley in "
Attack of the Moon Zombies" and Leigh "the dog lady" in "
House of Ghosts," wrote a column for the
Mihmiverse Monthly called
Puzzlin' with Sid. During its run, the recurring article featured Mihmiverse-related cryptograms, word searches, and crosswords designed by Ms. Korpi. The following appeared in the October 2012 issue.

CLASSIC MOVIE OF THE MONTH
Satellite in the Sky (1956)
Directed by
Paul DicksonStarring
Kieron Moore and
Lois Maxwell
England launches the first manned mission into low-Earth orbit to secretly test the "Tritonium" bomb, a doomsday atomic weapon that, once witnessed by the people of Earth, will put an end to war forever! Naturally, things don't go as planned and the crew (plus a sexy, female stowaway reporter) are forced to make some hard decisions and deal with some extremely dubious science. Filmed in "Cinemascope" and presented in color, the movie can be slow at times but overall, the look and feel of it is so genuinely "1950s science fiction" that it can't help but be fun! The cast is perfectly hammy, and the soap opera-ish melodrama sprinkled throughout is quite entertaining. The sets are beautifully retro and it seems pretty obvious that a good deal of money was spent on the movie. The special effects include some wonderful, era-appropriate model work where, yes, you can see the strings! Worth a look for every fan of old science fiction, if for no other reason than to see what the writers got right
AND wrong about space flight before it became a reality!
