The world premiere of writer/director Christopher R. Mihm's latest film, "House of Ghosts," was an unequivocal success! The sold-out show was EXTREMELY well received and, by all accounts, every person who attended survived the experience! The beautiful Heights Theatre was packed to the gills with excited fans who giggled, gasped and guffawed throughout the night's program.

For the first time in Mihmiverse history, every member of the film's cast was in attendance—including its canine stars, courtesy of their owners Sid Korpi (Leigh) and Anthony Kaczor (Piers)! Also, the promised otherworldly "shenanigans" were served up in abundance, and the nearly 400 people in attendance got to experience the latest (and truly darkest) Mihmiverse film in a way so unique, people will be talking about it for years to come!

But what about the MOVIE, you ask? Our verdict: brilliant! It is clear from the final film that writer/director Christopher R. Mihm accomplished everything he set out to do. "House of Ghosts" is a fitting and entertaining tribute to the films of classic horror master William Castle. The film is darker (as it should be) both literally and figuratively, the performances are top-notch, and the production, lighting design and ghost effects (and monsters!) are fantastic. Congratulations to all the cast and crew for creating a wonderful piece of art and a great addition to the ever-growing Mihmiverse library!

NOTE: The marquee at the Heights Theatre reads "House of Ghost" because, as owner Tom Letness informed us, he only has four S's! And, since the marquee listed the title on both sides, this was the best compromise!

Photos, from left to right, top to bottom: a line forms outside the theater (and curves around the corner!), writer/director Christopher R. Mihm prowls the room before the film starts, the "House of Ghosts" cake from premiere first-timer Melissa Dirtzu, on-site nurse Kira Pontiff (who handed out "fear shields" to everyone in attendance) checks one of the film's creatures for signs of life!

The Bequeather
With six days of principal photography in the can, Justen Overlander's Mihmiverse-inspired film, "The Bequeather," is in full production.

"We are laughing ourselves to tears on set," Overlander says. "It's one thing to have a funny script, but when you surround yourself with funny people, spontaneous bits bring the laughs to a whole new level. The look on Sid Korpi's face in this movie still frame alongside Joel Thingvall says it all!"

Justen Overlander (Ray/Sheriff Elliott/Jonathan) extends his heartfelt thanks to those who have contributed to "The Bequeather."

If you're interested in getting involved, it's not too late! Visit this website to make a donation to the project and help ensure the movie is seen through to completion.

Beyond the Time Barrier (1960)
Directed by Edgar G. Ulmer
Starring Robert Clarke, Darlene Tompkins and Vladimir Sokoloff

A test-pilot flies an experimental sub-orbital aircraft and, upon landing, finds himself in the far-off future of the year 2024. The world he knew is gone, seemingly abandoned and in a state of complete decay. While scouting around, he is set upon by the inhabitants of a strange futuristic city, knocked unconscious, and captured. When he awakens, he is surprised to find the remnants of the now-dying human race living in a strange dystopian society. Most of the population has been mutated into brutal, deformed creatures by a cosmic plague and the remaining few unaffected people rule with an iron fist. He also encounters other "time-travelers" who arrived in this bizarre future by similar "wormhole events." Using his wits and derring-do, our hero must find a way to escape and return to his own time before the violent mutants overthrow the delicate balance! "Beyond the Time Barrier" is quite a decent 1950s science fiction film. In fact, one of the best things that can be said about it is that it feels very much like a prototypical episode of the original "Star Trek" series. Though it definitely comes off as a low-budget production, the story and overall tone of the film is so strong, it overcomes any and all limitations. All things considered, I found myself thoroughly enjoying the film and would recommend it to any fan of classic sci-fi!

If you thought last month's choice ("Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine") was ridiculous, get a load of what we dug up (literally!) this month. The last in the series of American International beach movies was quite possibly the silliest one of all: "The Ghost in the Invisible Bikini." (1966)

The Bobby Fuller Four: "Make the Music Pretty"

Nancy Sinatra: "Geronimo"
Following the "Dr. Goldfoot" casting formula, they hired two popular teen stars to play the heroes: Disney's Tommy Kirk and Gidget star Deborah Whalley. Apparently Frankie and Annette were busy—or just too smart to get involved.

For horror fans, they hired "monster master" Boris Karloff, and the iconic Sherlock Holmes, Basil Rathbone.

Then, for good measure, they added the original Maytag Repairman, Jesse White, and in his final film appearance, legendary silent film actor Francis X. Bushman.

For music, it was the Bobby Fuller Four ("I Fought the Law") and Nancy Sinatra ("These Boots Were Made for Walkin'").

Here's the plot, such as it is: The ghost of recently dead Hiram Stokley (Karloff) has 24 hours to perform one good deed to get into Heaven. He enlists the help of his long-dead girlfriend (played by Susan Hart) to stop his lawyer, Reginald Ripper (Rathbone), and a henchman from claiming the estate for themselves. The real heirs, Chuck (Kirk) and Lili (Whalley), somehow foil the plan by having a pool party at the mansion.

That's basically it, but "The Ghost in the Invisible Bikini" is jam-packed with silly subplots and slapstick. The intent was to make a rollicking beach movie/ghost story/musical comedy...but it wasn't rollicking, it wasn't scary or funny, and the music wasn't very good.

The Bobby Fuller Four provided a couple of songs at the pool party, including "Make the Music Pretty," which sounded like a combination of every Gary Lewis and the Playboys song ever recorded. They also backed up Nancy Sinatra on "Geronimo," which was definitely NOT one of her greatest hits.
