In just three short weeks, the latest (and scariest) Mihmiverse film will hold its big world premiere at the Heights Theatre, and for those interested in going but don't have tickets...sorry! The event has been sold out for WEEKS! There will be no (zero, zilch, nada, NONE) tickets available at the door!

DVDs, posters and other merchandise will also be on sale!
AND, don't forget: we'll be holding a special post-premiere Open House of Ghosts that is open to ANYONE and EVERYONE, NOT just those who attend the premiere!

The Green Slime (1968)
Directed by Kinji Fukasaku Starring Robert Horton, Richard Jaeckel and Luciana Paluzzi
It is the future and a giant asteroid is heading straight for Earth! A group of daring astronauts land on the asteroid's surface, plant explosives, destroy the giant space rock and save the planet. BUT, this part of the story is not the focus of "The Green Slime." The film truly begins when the crew returns to the "Gamma 3" space station in orbit around Earth. Stuck to the leg of his spacesuit, one of the astronauts accidentally brings a green slime-like substance back to the station. Without warning, the gunk mutates into a humungous, cycloptic, multitentacled creature that has the ability to generate lethal amounts of electricity. Using science-fiction-ish laser weaponry, the crew of the station fight off the creature but, unfortunately, the alien monster feeds off the energy and uses it to replicate by creating new versions of itself from its own blood. Not surprisingly, the creatures quickly take over, and the crew must fight to the last man to stop the alien horde from making its way to Earth! YES, the plot sounds like a million sci-fi clichés and, admittedly, the film is more or less filled with them. However, it has a very distinct look and feel brought about by the fact that it was produced by MGM but shot in Japan at the Toei company studios and directed by a Japanese director best known for working on samurai and yakuza films! This gives "The Green Slime" a truly unique flair all its own. The movie is a bit on the violent side by comparison to other classic sci-fi films, BUT, as a release from the late '60s, this isn't entirely surprising. The story is exciting, the special effects are superb (particularly the creature designs), and the story is as ludicrously entertaining as it sounds. Highly recommendedthough it may scare some of the younger audience members!

Since so many fans and supporters have contributed and become associate producers, we wanted to take time to highlight some of these wonderful people! Thus, every month between now and the release of "House of Ghosts," we will randomly choose and interview one of them.
This month, we interview Becky and Jim Stephens!
Introduce yourself to the Mihmiverse! Jim: My name is Jim Stephens. I am 55 and married. I have two stepsons, Mitch and Marty. Becky: I am a 55-year-old medication aide at an assisted living facility. I enjoy science fiction movies and conventions.
When and how did you discover the films of Christopher R. Mihm? Jim: I was invited into the Mihmiverse through my stepson, Mitch. Becky: My oldest son (Mitch) invited my husband and me to one of the Mihmiverse world premieres in Minnesota.
You recently became an associate producer of "House of Ghosts." Why? Jim: I love the films and writer/director Christopher R. Mihm's vision. Becky: I enjoy Christopher R. Mihm's movies. They are family friendly.
In 1965, the powers-that-be at American International Pictures had what they thought was a great idea. The thought process probably went something like this:
Teen/beach movies are drive-in gold.
Horror/Sci-Fi films are drive-in gold.
Most films made for the drive-in are cheap and cheesy, with no-name stars and horrible music...but...
What if we took the hottest stars from both genres, made a movie that mixed the genres, and added music by today's top stars? We'd have box office platinum!
They promptly "green-lighted" the project and started the casting process.
For the teens, they hired Frankie Avalon and Dwayne Hickman (Dobie Gillis!) to play the leads, and secured Annette Funicello and Deborah Whalley (Gidget!) for cameos.
For the horror/sci-fi fans, they hired the legendary Vincent Price, and for music, they hired The Supremes.
"Doctor Goldfoot" was a weird teen/horror/sci-fi/comedy/crime hybrid...with a bit of "spy" movie squeezed in. The plot was ridiculous: Price plays a mad scientist who builds a gang of female robots designed to seduce and rob wealthy men. Avalon and Hickman play the bumbling heroes. The film's climax was an extended car/bike/cable car/boat-on-wheels chase through the streets of San Francisco.
Price said later that it was also supposed to be a musical, but all of the musical numbers were left on the cutting room floor. Later in the year, there was a Shindig TV special hosted by Disney actor Tommy Kirk that featured some of the music that was cut, but the only song that survived in the theatrical release was the title song by The Supremes. American International felt it was a surefire hit, but Motown boss Berry Gordy Jr. refused to release it. Perhaps it was because the song was pretty cheesy, or maybe it was because of some of the lyrics: "...and she'd behave just like a slave..."

Being from Wisconsin, I love cheese on everything. I found this yummy cauliflower recipe that the whole gang just loves and also embraces my fondness of all things cheese and adds a little zip to otherwise dreary cauliflower.
Special Cauliflower
Ingredients
2 cups fresh cauliflowerets
1 tablespoon plain yogurt
1 tablespoon mayonnaise
1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1/8 teaspoon dill weed
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Directions
Place cauliflower in a steamer basket; place in a small saucepan over 1 in. of water. Bring to a boil; cover and steam for 68 minutes or until crisp-tender.
Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine the yogurt, mayonnaise, mustard, dill, salt and garlic powder.
Transfer cauliflower to an ungreased 3-cup baking dish; top with yogurt mixture and cheese. Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 5 minutes or until heated through and cheese is melted.
Yield: 3 servings.
2/3 cup equals 88 calories. Eat your veggies and you will give this dish a "claws" up. My monsters give this dish 5 out of 5 "mutated bats." Enjoy with your favorite meat and a dinner roll.
You can find this recipe (and many more like it) and its corresponding nutrition information on the Taste of Home website!
