INCREDIBLE NEWS!
As of the publication date of this newsletter, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm has completed his "first draft" edit of the Mihmiverse "quarantine movie," "
The Phantom Lake Kids in The Unseen Invasion!" This marks the fastest turnaround, from conception to completion, of
ANY Mihmiverse film! Granted, given the extremely unusual circumstances under which it was made, this isn't entirely surprising!
According to super-fan and good friend of the 'verse, Jennifer Perkins, this film will serve as a "time capsule" for this very odd year and the threatening, worldwide viral pandemic which haunts all of our lives. According to our sources, the film will also be the shortest feature to date if you don't consider each half of "
The Late Night Double Feature" separate features, (of which writer/director Christopher R. Mihm does not) behind "
Danny Johnson Saves the World."
"
Danny Johnson Saves the World," which more-or-less serves as a prequel to the Phantom Lake Kids films, clocked in at 66 minutes, with its running time padded by the addition of a two-minute animated Canoe Cops short at the beginning of the movie. This new film, "
The Phantom Lake Kids in The Unseen Invasion," is the first official Phantom Lake Kids film to be released (though not
TECHNICALLY the first in the in-universe chronological order) and runs at just over an hour.
Given the limits of time and lack of access to "outside Mihm-family help" imposed by the pandemic, we here at the
Mihmiverse Monthly would like to be the first to say how impressed we are that, despite the inherent difficulties we're all experiencing right now, the Mihm family has been able to band together and keep the "one-movie-a-year" record going! In fact, by finishing this new film in time to premiere it in this calendar year and with "
The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us" complete and ready to be released in 2021, the record will remain unbroken for the next year as well!
In honor of this momentous occasion, we've been given permission to publish a very funny "accidental still" from the new film (below). Anyone who has purchased a Mihmiverse DVD or Blu-Ray should be familiar with "accidental still" galleries as special features exclusive to Mihmiverse physical media releases.
"Accidental stills" are a goofy by-product of digital editing software which displays (and allows the editor to save screen captures of) images based on wherever the cursor is placed in a movie's editing timeline. Some of these images end up being especially bizarre, usually involving half-blinks or out-of-context moments, and end up quite entertaining. The one provided below from "
The Phantom Lake Kids in The Unseen Invasion" just gets weirder and weirder (and funnier and funnier) the more you look at it! We don't know what's happening at this point in the film and, based on the fact that two of the actors are looking directly at the camera, we're assuming this was taken from an outtake. Regardless, it's fun...and so weird!
Check it out below!
Now that the initial edit of "
The Phantom Lake Kids in The Unseen Invasion" is complete, time is running out to get your or your loved one's name in the end credits of the film! Writer/director Christopher R. Mihm is planning a December 23rd digital world premiere (and an open rental window immediately afterwards), so the film
MUST be finalized sooner rather than later.
Don't delay! Order
NOW! Think about the date of the premiere and then imagine the looks on the faces of your loved ones when they see their names at the end of a movie...a movie safe and funny enough for the entire family to enjoy as they celebrate the holidays!
In this all new Phantom Lake Kids adventure, Danny Johnson, his sisters Alice and Evelyn, and their wacky friends Butch, Chip, and Billy Blue find themselves stuck in the Johnson house during a government-mandated worldwide quarantine. When most of them inexplicably disappear in a flash of light, then reappear moments later, it becomes exceedingly clear this is no ordinary event! However, when Alice (Elizabeth Kaiser returning to a role she hasn't played since the character was introduced in 2009's "
Terror from Beneath the Earth") doesn't return, the rest must meticulously (and hilariously) unravel the mystery behind her disappearance and the invisible forces behind it! Could it be...aliens?
For each $20.00 donation, all
contributors will be entitled to having a single name

AND, as of right now, streaming through Amazon Video is one of the few services that earns Saint Euphoria Pictures a couple bucks in the process! It's not nearly as much as purchasing physical media, but every penny helps!
Drive-in Monsters is the official Mihmiverse Roku channel and is the place to find all the films of writer/director Christopher R. Mihm
AND a collection of special features curated by the man himself! Eventually, it is Mr. Mihm's plan to add some really cool, exclusive content over time, so we encourage you to add the channel to your Roku lineup. To find the

The more money the channel earns, the more Mihmiverse content we make! It's a win-win for everyone!
SO, make sure that once you've installed the channel, you
GIVE IT A STAR RATINGthe higher the better! Then, be sure to tell everyone you know to install the channel and do the same! With your help, we'll be able to continue to bring you the best Mihmiverse-related content for years to come!
Lastly, the entire Mihmiverse collection is also available for both rental and purchase through its
Vimeo VOD portal! Every film is presented using the same ultra high-quality renders used for the official Blu-Ray releases and actually feeds video content to the

YOU, the fans! Every month, we choose a random Mihmivite and ask them a few Mihmiverse-related questions in an attempt to get to know them better and find out what they
REALLY think about the films of Christopher R. Mihm!
This month, we interview super-fan Barry Perkins!
Introduce yourself to the Mihmiverse!
Hi, my name is Barry Perkins. I'm a Billing Project Lead for Thomson Reuters. I was born in late 1973, so the movies that clearly serve as the inspiration for the Mihmiverse are very familiar to me. I have very fond memories of coming home from church and turning on the Sunday Afternoon Matinee and watching cheesy sci-fi/monster movies from the '50s with my Dad. I grew up watching "Dr. Who" (Tom Baker is "my Doctor") and reading "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," so the Mihmiverse was a perfect fit for me. These movies strike what I consider to be the perfect balance between being "self-aware" without congratulating itself for how clever it's being.
When and how did you discover the films of Christopher R. Mihm?
My mom and two sisters had been talking about these amazing films from this guy who lives over near them for years. I was slightly curious about them, but had tended to give them an "eye roll" when they talked about getting their names in the credits and dressing up to attend the world premiere. Then the 2016 "Perkins Summer Vacation" happened. When my mom and younger sister left our summer vacation two days early so they could be in the audience for a pair of "
The Monster of Phantom Lake: The Musical!" performances, I realized this was something I had to check out. Once I saw "
The Giant Spider," there was no turning back... I was hooked!
In those four short years, I have gone to being "aware" of the Mihmiverse to one of its biggest supporters. I own multiple collectibles (including several screen-used props) and have even made several props for "
The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us." I'm hoping the Mihmiverse continues for many more years as it brings much enjoyment to a lot of people.
If you had to pick just ONE, which of the Mihmiverse films would be your favorite?
That is a very tough choice. "
The Giant Spider" is my go-to movie when I just want to watch something, and it's the movie I always use to introduce people to the Mihmiverse. However, in my heart, my favorite is "
Danny Johnson Saves the World." This movie takes utterly ridiculous ingredients (Danny Johnson wrestling with a puppet, for example) and treats it in a very serious manner. I feel it tests your upper limits of how willing you are to suspend your disbelief, and good art is always testing limits.
Tell us how you, in particular, show your "Mihmiverse pride!"
My desk at work (up until recently) had an entire shelf and several walls dedicated to the Mihmiverse. My pride and joy, a laser rifle from "
Demon with the Atomic Brain," held center stage. I've now moved them all home and have two book shelves dedicated to all the various collectibles I have, including a Death Dealer costume "
The Guns of the Apocalypse," Mrs. Crawford's blanket from "
Queen of Snakes," and even the spider leg from "
The Giant Spider!" Bruce, a distant relative of Steve from "
Danny Johnson Saves the World," has traveled with us on multiple road trips and has even had his own calendar as well as a Facebook page (search for "Bruce the Alien"). Bruce and I try to spread the word about the wonderful world of the Mihmiverse to all corners of the map. I'm also working on a Mihmiverse card game, so stay tuned for more about that!
Where would you like to see the Mihmiverse go in the future?
That's a tricky one. In the past, I would have said more movies, but given the uncertainty of the future I'm more likely to say still do one movie a year and then some smaller projects. I'd love to see more about Butch and Chip (from the Phantom Lake Kids series) and maybe some other side characters in smaller adventures. I've always wondered what happens in this universe during the "down time" between monster attacks. Maybe some short films about the local therapist, late night radio host or local bar?

CLASSIC MOVIE OF THE MONTH
The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (1966)
Directed by
Alan RafkinStarring
Don Knotts,
Joan Staley and
Dick Sargent
Don Knotts stars in this classic comedy as Luther Heggs, a lovable scaredy-cat who works as a typesetter for a small town newspaper. He dreams of one day becoming a big-time reporter and, after being prodded by the paper's janitor to write a story about a local murder-suicide which took place many years prior in a now-presumed haunted house, he slyly slips the article into the paper. The story proves popular with the local citizenry and to boost paper sales, Luther is tapped to spend a night in the old mansion...on the 20th anniversary of the original crime, no less. As he settles in for the night, the house seemingly comes alive with ghostly happenings. The next morning, he writes a story about his otherworldly experiences and he quickly becomes a minor celebrity. Unfortunately, the man who inherited the house isn't particularly happy with the publicity and sues Luther and the newspaper for libel. What follows is a fun, goofy and wholesomely entertaining story about a man in over his head who may or may not have experienced what he thought! "
The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" can be enjoyed by everyone and is a great movie for this time of year for kids of all ages! The humor is playfully innocent and several running gags are quite funny. Don Knotts was a skilled physical comedian and this film is a perfect example of it. Highly recommended!

Spirits of Comedy
October means Halloween and Halloween means ghosts and haunted houses. Literally
HUNDREDS of films have been made featuring one or the otheror bothincluding writer/director Christopher R. Mihm's "
House of Ghosts." Most of them were creepy, many of them were cheesy, some were full length and some were shorts. Some of them were even comedies. In fact, some of the funniest people ever to appear on screen took a crack at making a ghost/haunted house film.
Continuing the comedy theme of Mr. Mihm's
Classic Movie of the Month (starring Don Knotts), here is a list of 6 films, and a list of comedy legends. With nothing else to guide you but your funny bone, your mission is to match them up, and then go watch one. We need a little comedy in today's world.
