SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

Since he's only days away from finishing "The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us" AND the beginning of principal photography of "That Which Lurks in the Dark," writer/director Christopher R. Mihm has decided the time is right to follow through on an idea he's had for several years: "The Mihmiverse Holiday Special!"

Steve has gone missing and the new society he's built for his people has fallen into chaos and despair! Luckily, his loyal sidekick (and nephew) Stu knows EXACTLY where to find someone who can help locate his uncle...and help bring joy back to their planet! "The Mihmiverse Holiday Special" brings back every Mihmivite's favorite alien and a familiar cast of characters to go on a wild adventure, celebrate the holiday season, and pay homage to the granddaddy of genre holiday specials, "The Star Wars Holiday Special!"

The plan is to release "The Mihmiverse Holiday Special" just in time for the 2020 holiday season!

To ensure that "The Mihmiverse Holiday Special" is as lavish as Mr. Mihm hopes it can be, contributor credits for the special are NOW AVAILABLE for purchase!

For each $25.00 donation, all contributors will be entitled to having a single name* of their choosing listed in the contributors section of the closing credits of the special, a customized, frame-able document certifying their contribution, and one (1) copy of the finished product! Additional copies of the special and/or world premiere tickets may be pre-ordered as "add-ons" ($10 each) with the purchase of at least one credit.

DON'T FORGET!

Credits can be given as gifts! There are few gifts as unique as your loved one's name in the credits of a movie!

THE YEAR IN REVIEW
Happy New Year!

Since the very first edition of the original Phantom Lake Almanac (the title of this newsletter before becoming the Mihmiverse Monthly in August 2011), the January issue has served to provide an in-depth look back at all the significant Mihmiverse-related events that happened during the previous calendar year.

In honor of such a long-held tradition, we take this opportunity to celebrate all the exciting things that happened in the Mihmiverse during 2019!

JANUARY

2019 began with a surprise New Year's Eve announcement of a new Mihmiverse film! Originally slated to follow "Queen of Snakes," the project would reunite a familiar pair of scientists (Drs. Edwards and Gabriel) to battle be-tentacled beasts and lovesick lonely hearts in a comedic horror/sci-fi mash-up entitled "That Which Lurks in the Dark!"

At the time, Mr. Mihm was hoping "That Which Lurks in the Dark" would premiere toward the end of 2019, hopefully making it the first calendar year in Mihmiverse history to see the official release of TWO Mihmiverse movies (not including "The Monster of Phantom Lake: The Musical!," which technically was not a "film")!

Unfortunately, the film ran into a series of logistical snafus and was ultimately delayed...until NOW! Almost exactly one year after its announcement, principal photography will FINALLY begin a few days after the release of this newsletter—which means NOW is the perfect time to contribute to the production!

Also in January, the "draft edit" of "Queen of Snakes" was completed and the date of the world premiere was revealed. The crowd funding campaign to release Mihmiverse Blu-Rays officially began.

In writer/director Christopher R. Mihm's first true horror comedy, it's New Year's Eve and the Phantom Lake Lonely Hearts Club is holding its annual celebration. When the night's festivities are interrupted by a distant explosion and subsequent blackout, its members are forced to deal with their personal anxieties in the form of overwhelming darkness, otherworldly be-tentacled creatures, a pair of monster hunting scientists and, most frighteningly, their own awkward quests for love!

For each $25.00 donation, all contributors will be entitled to having a single name* of their choosing listed in the contributors section of the closing credits of the film, a customized, frame-able document certifying their contribution, and one (1) copy of the finished film! Additional copies of the film and/or world premiere tickets may be pre-ordered as "add-ons" ($10 each) with the purchase of at least one credit.

DON'T FORGET!

Credits can even be given as gifts! Imagine the looks on the faces of your loved ones when they find out their names will be immortalized on the silver screen!

FEBRUARY

Authoring of the Mihmiverse Blu-Ray discs continued throughout February and writer/director Christopher R. Mihm vigorously pushed the crowd-funding campaign to get them made.

Mr. Mihm also finalized his edit of "Queen of Snakes," released the official poster design (which has since proven to be one of the most popular among all of the Mihmiverse films!), and began selling tickets to the April 24th world premiere.

"Guns of the Apocalypse" was nominated for a Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Award, an honor which has been bestowed upon more than half of the Mihmiverse film catalog. To date, only "House of Ghosts" has won the coveted award.

MARCH

The month started with a bang when the trailer for "Queen of Snakes" was released!

Scheduling issues with "That Which Lurks in the Dark" started to crop up and, in response, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm began writing a new film that would ultimately go into production ahead of it: "The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us!"

The story was teased to follow Danny Johnson (last seen in 2015's "Danny Johnson Saves The World"), his sister Evelyn and three of their buddies on another adventure into the Mihmiverse. However, this one would be special in that it was being specifically designed to reference as much "Mihmiverse history" as possible and the fans could expect appearances by a bevy of familiar faces, characters and locations!

Also in March: after being off the market for over a year, a limited number of Monsters of the Mihmiverse trading card sets were re-released—and subsequently sold out very quickly. The Mihmiverse Blu-Ray crowd funding campaign met its original goal and a "stretch goal" was added in the hopes of including Blu-Ray versions of "Guns of the Apocalypse" and "Queen of Snakes!"

APRIL

April began with yet another joke, this time concerning the Mihm family opening a "micro drive-in" movie theater. Of all the April Fool's jokes over the years, this one received the highest number of disappointed emails and responses from fans and friends after it was revealed to be untrue!

The Mihmiverse Blu-Ray stretch goals were met and the entire catalog of Mihmiverse movies was finally made available on Blu-Ray! Also, pre-production of what was (at the time) determined to be the NEXT Mihmiverse film (post "Queen of Snakes"), "The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us," began in earnest.

Finally, and most importantly, the first full-color Mihmiverse feature, "Queen of Snakes," celebrated its release on April 24th—and was the first to officially sell out in over three years!

Angry at her daughter/ caretaker for being directly responsible for her paraplegia, the reclusive Mrs. Crawford accidentally receives a package containing a mysterious amulet. The ancient treasure grants her the horrific powers of a lesser Norse goddess known as the Queen of Snakes and, in a quest to control them, becomes a danger to herself...and potentially the ENTIRE WORLD!

Both the Blu-Ray and DVD contain a high quality digital transfer of the film and several exclusive special features, including a blooper reel, two photo galleries, featurettes, feature-length commentary with writer/director Christopher R. Mihm, English subtitles, Esperanto audio & subtitles and much more!

Feature Run Time: 1 hour, 9 minutes. Color, Widescreen, NOT RATED.

MAY

The month kicked off with the announcement of an event celebrating the 10th anniversary of the release of "Terror from Beneath the Earth" (and the Mihmiverse's own "Monster of all Trades" Michael Kaiser's 30th birthday) and ended with the event taking place in Vadnais Heights, MN.

The production crew took full advantage of the hotel meeting room in which the event took place by filming a scene for "The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us" featuring the main cast plus familiar faces Mike Cook (as Dr. Edwards, last seen in 2014's "The Late Night Double Feature") and James Norgard (as Dr. Gabriel, last seen in 2017's "Demon with the Atomic Brain").

Rumor has it the scene takes place in the same university mentioned multiple times in "The Monster of Phantom Lake" and actually seen and depicted in "The Giant Spider!"

JUNE

Principal photography of "The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us" ramped up in June, consuming almost all of the cast and crew's free time! Luckily, they were able to fit in a break and attend a weekend of screenings of "Queen of Snakes" and "Guns of the Apocalypse" at the Time Community Theater in Oshkosh, WI.

Lastly, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm took some time out of his busy schedule to sit down with the I Love That Movie! Podcast to discuss a film which served as one of the inspirations for the Mihmiverse: Tim Burton's "Ed Wood!"

JULY

The entire month of July was taken over by principal photography of "The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us." The cast and crew braved heat, humidity, and overwhelming onslaughts of mosquitoes to keep the Mihmiverse marching forward!

Also in July: the first teaser image of the beast from the new movie was released but, it didn't show much!

AUGUST

Very little beyond filming "The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us" took place during August with the intense shoot schedule pushing principal photography valiantly toward completion.

Also this month, SaintEuphoria.com posted a very impressive still from the production and every Mihmivite who saw it knew writer/director Christopher R. Mihm was serious about paying homage to the entirety of his film universe!

Yes, that is actor Daniel R. Sjerven reprising his dual role as brothers Stan (from 2009's "Terror from Beneath the Earth") and Howard (last seen in 2013's "The Giant Spider") Johnson in a scene from the new film! Hooray for movie magic!

SEPTEMBER

On the very first day of September, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm, the main cast, Mike Cook, and James Norgard (again playing Drs. Edwards and Gabriel, respectively) book-ended active production of "The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us" by filming the last scene required required to bring principal photography to a close—just in time for the young members of the cast to return to school for the new year!

At the end of the month, after doing some extensive deep cleaning of the "Saint Euphoria Archives" (also known as the Mihm family garage), the ORIGINAL "The Monster of Phantom Lake" monster costume was FOUND!

Much to the surprise of Mr. Mihm and his "cleaning crew," the remains of the body suit worn by "monster-of-all-trades" Michael Kaiser was located in a plastic storage container beneath a pile of similar containers. The body portion of the costume was believed to have been lost, with the mask and hands thought to be the only pieces to survive the last 15 years.

Because this unexpected treasure was unearthed, pieces of the costume were offered for sale, with a select group of lucky fans taking advantage while it lasted!

Time is running out!

Though the film is nearing completion, you can still contribute to the next Mihmiverse film, "The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us," and get your name—or your loved one's, pet's, business name, podcast, whatever you'd like!—in the end credits!

For each contribution of just $25.00 (per credit), all contributors will have a credit of their choosing listed at the end of the film and receive one (1) copy of the finished film, as well as a customized, frame-worthy document certifying their contribution!

Additional copies of the film and/or premiere tickets may be pre-ordered as "add-ons" ($10 each) with the purchase of at least one credit!

NOVEMBER

Post-production of "The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us" continued mostly behind the scenes, thus making November a very quiet month in the Mihmiverse.

Also in November, the 2020 Mihmiverse Wall Calendar received enough pre-orders to be sent to the printer and the 2019 Mihmiverse Mystery Box went on sale!

DECEMBER

The final month of the year began with the release of the official poster design for "The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us" and the announcement of the film's world premiere date: April 29th at the Heights Theater! Advance tickets should go on sale soon!

A few days later, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm put his first film, "The Monster of Phantom Lake," up for sale (or rent) digitally through Vimeo! He continues to add a film a week to the video-sharing site and plans to have them all up in time for the premiere of the next film!

Finally, the year wrapped up with the unveiling of "The Mihmiverse Holiday Special!"

2020 has arrived and with it, a year brimming with Mihmiverse goodness, brought to you by the hardest working team of artists dedicated to bringing you the best in indie-retro-monster-cinema!

"The Phantom Lake Kids in The Beast Walks Among Us" is speeding toward its finish and will be coming in the Spring! Screenings, events and appearances are already being added to the calendar and lots of fun things are being plotted and planned for you, our friends and fans! With so many wonderful things coming up, we wish you the happiest of new years!
STREAM THE MIHMIVERSE ON AMAZON
Almost every Mihmiverse film is currently available to be streamed on Amazon Prime—including the latest release, "Queen of Snakes!" However, Amazon has recently taken a "hostile stance" toward independent films on its service. Many films of a particularly lower-budget stripe are starting to be pulled (without explanation) in an attempt by the company to "clean up" its movie selection. Unfortunately, the works of writer/director Christopher R. Mihm have not been immune.

The first Mihmiverse film to be dropped from their service was "Destination: Outer Space" and, unfortunately, once removed, it CANNOT be resubmitted and will NEVER be reconsidered by the service. There was no explanation beyond a vague boilerplate response about "customer quality standards." "Destination: Outer Space" was the first Mihmiverse film to have a "star rating" slip below three and, as far as we can tell, that's the biggest reason it was dropped.

For a majority of people around the world, streaming has become the de facto home delivery method for movies, and having the films of writer/director Christopher R. Mihm available on one of the largest services is important to help keep future Mihmiverse projects coming!

To make sure the films STAY on Amazon Prime, we need your help—and it's easy to do! Simply stream any Mihmiverse film from beginning to end. This is particularly important as films that are started but not finished are usually flagged as "problematic," so make sure you run each film through to its end credits!

Once you've finished watching something, give it a star rating... but only if your star rating is AT LEAST three. Anything below three stars negatively affects the film and potentially drags it below the "three star" removal threshold. If you feel so inclined, give it a review, but be honest! Tell the world what you think and maybe even let others know that there are MORE Mihmiverse films available to watch on the service! THEN, encourage everyone you know to do the same! The more streaming minutes the 'verse gets, the more likely the films will remain—so feel free to view (and rate!) the entire collection!

Thank you for your help!

Introduce yourself to the Mihmiverse!
My name is Lisa Hollar. I am a mother of four, a grandmother to three, and I live in Ada, Ohio, where I'm an auditor at the Wilson Football Factory. I also write short stories, mostly for children, but also horror, because that can be fun!

When and how did you discover the films of Christopher R. Mihm?
My son (he's 10) and I both love spider movies. One night I was scrolling through Amazon looking for something to watch and ran across "The Giant Spider." After watching it, I just had to see more!

If you had to pick just ONE, which of the Mihmiverse films would be your favorite?
"Attack of the Moon Zombies." But, I have yet to see "Destination: Outer Space." I've seen a preview of it and it looks like all kinds of fun!

CLASSIC MOVIE OF THE MONTH
Blood of Dracula (1957)
Directed by Herbert L. Strock
Starring Sandra Harrison and Louise Lewis

After her mother dies and her father quickly remarries, an angry, disaffected teenage girl finds herself basically dumped in an all-girls boarding school. The other girls there take an intense and immediate disliking to her. As a result, she violently lashes out. Her aggressive behavior (and overall demeanor) catches the attention of one of the school's instructors, a scientifically corrupt and morally challenged woman with a ridiculous, 1950s-B-movie theory: if you were to unleash and somehow manifest the evil inherent in all human beings, you would demonstrate a weapon of such unbelievable horror that humanity would give up its quest for atomic weapons and live in peace. Under the guise of therapeutic hypnosis sessions, the instructor uses a magical amulet (that's somehow tangentially related to Dracula, hence the title) to release the teenager's hatred and underlying malice and transform her into a strange, vampire-esque monster. Not-so-surprisingly, the creature stalks the campus and the body count rises. If you're a fan of "1950s-drive-in cinema," you probably have a pretty good idea of how this ends. "Blood of Dracula" is a perfect example of the teen-centric "cheapies" American International Pictures was infamous for in the 1950s and '60s. It includes attractive, young, and marginally talented actors playing hip, know-it-all teens who love to drink, dance, and romance, while inept adults take advantage of and generally underestimate them. This film is mercifully short and extremely entertaining, especially when the guy with the strange accent/speech impediment shows up and sings a cheesy little rock n' roll tune called "Puppy Love." Also, this film served as one of the inspirations for my most recent film, "Queen of Snakes!" Highly recommended!
