Today we have some sad news to report. Charlie, the cat belonging to the family of writer/director Christopher R. Mihm and specifically referenced after the end credits of "The Monster of Phantom Lake" as feeling bad for eating the gopher featured in the opening credits of the film, has passed away today at the ripe old age of 18. He was friendly and well-loved by all who met him. He will be missed.

ALSO, in case you missed it, the We Came From The Basement podcast did a review of "House of Ghosts" and it is both funny and quite positive. Check out the latest photo to emerge from production of the next Mihmiverse film, "The Giant Spider!"

This rare color photo was described as a fun Mihmiverse-inspired version of "American Gothic," the famous work of art created by American painter Grant Wood. This photo marks the first publicly released photo of frequent 'verse player Daniel R. Sjerven in costume. A photo of actress Shannon McDonough (also pictured) was released a couple months ago through the Mihmiverse Facebook page!

The photo was taken by actor/behind-the-scenes-contributor Mark Haider (General Castle/Nok) this past Sunday during a break from filming the latest Mihmiverse movie.

Also of note, a VERY POSITIVE review of "The Monster of Phantom Lake" appeared in the most recent A Little Dead Podcast. A Little Dead Podcast" celebrates horror, sci-fi, zombies, super heroes, video games, and much, much more. The episode is worth listening to AND it even includes a "cameo" by Rachel Grubb, the actress who played Amy in the film (and appeared as the dastardly villain Hagra in 2008's "Cave Women on Mars").

Though it's a couple days late, we have finally posted the latest Mihmiverse Bonfire Podcast AND it's a little bit different this month... and a whole lot more special!

Because we've been so busy filming the next Mihmiverse film, "The Giant Spider," we were unable to get a full podcast recorded. Thus, we decided to release TWO special edition "House of Ghosts" premiere themed episodes we've been sitting on for a couple of months.

Here's what you can expect:
  • Twas the Night — recorded on May 22nd, 2012, this "night before the premiere of 'House of Ghosts'" episode captures the anxiety and excitement the Mihmiverse crew felt before the big event!
  • Decompression Session — a special "after the premiere of 'House of Ghosts' decompression session" recorded a few days after the big event. Hosts Rhuby 'n' Hater and writer/director Christopher R. Mihm discuss their impressions of the premiere with many special guests!

Here comes "The Giant Spider!"

The Giant Spider!
If you've been wondering why we haven't been updating the site very much lately, the picture to your right will answer ALL of your questions! "The Giant Spider" is now in FULL PRODUCTION, and everyone involved in creating the next great Mihmiverse film is busy, busy, busy! We apologize for the silence but, rest assured, when you see the finished film, it will be very much worth it!

The hairy creepy-crawly pictured is the true star of the "The Giant Spider, " Tarantulos the tarantula! Not-so-coincidentally, Tarantulos is owned by writer/director Christopher R. Mihm's son Elliott (last seen playing Danny Johnson in "Terror from Beneath the Earth"), and can be seen here in his "blue-screen box," a contraption created by special effects guru (and monster mask designer) Mitch Gonzales. The blue-screen box will be used to composite this eight-legged monstrosity into the final film and help recreate that authentic 1950s B-movie feel of such oversized-arachnid-run-amok classics as 1955's "Tarantula" and 1958's "Earth vs. the Spider!"

Principal photography of the next Mihmiverse film, "The Giant Spider" began TODAY! We have few details about WHAT was shot BUT, we do know "The Giant Spider" is now in FULL PRODUCTION! Rejoice, Mihmivites!

Secondly, the latest episode of the Mihmiverse Bonfire Podcast is here!

Holy rare Mihmiverse sighting, Batman! (No pun intended!)

CONvergence 2012
As you can see from the photo at right, a couple very special guests appeared at the 2012 CONvergence convention over the past weekend. Not only was a moon zombie sighted walking around the event, the mutant bat came out of his irradiated home in the Wisawa caves to wander around and strike fear into the hearts of con-goers!

The event also saw the appearance of several Mihmiverse actors and "behind-the-scenesters" including writer/director Christopher R. Mihm, Stephanie Mihm (Ursula/Rosemary), "monster-of-all-trades" Michael Kaiser, Jim Norgard (Arthur/Dr. Gabriel), Maggie Schultz (Dr. Deering), and producers Ryan and Tori Fox!

Lastly, the Mihmiverse gang ran into a handful of local associate producers, some of whom writer/director Christopher R. Mihm had never met in person. Mr. Mihm wanted to pass along that of everything that transpired over the four-day convention, meeting these fine people who have contributed their hard-earned money to the making of his films was the high point of the event!

Speaking of associate producers, if you'd like to become one and help support the next Mihmiverse film, "The Giant Spider," why not visit the merchandise page and become one RIGHT NOW?

We finally got our first true review of "House of Ghosts" and, though short, it is EXTREMELY positive and includes one of the the best quotes EVER to describe the films of writer/director Christopher R. Mihm:
"...[Mihm's films] are done for pocket money, but look like they cost the mortgage and are far more entertaining than studio efforts that cost hundreds of millions. They are like homemade cookies. They're just better than store bought."

One word: AMAZING!

Last Wednesday's world premiere of "House of Ghosts" was so incredible, it has literally taken us almost five full days to recover! The sold-out show was EXTREMELY well received and, by all accounts, every person who attended survived the experience! The beautiful Heights Theatre was packed-to-the-gills with excited fans who giggled, gasped, and guffawed throughout the night's program.

For the first time in Mihmiverse history, every member of the film's cast was in attendance—including its canine stars courtesy of their owners Sid Korpi (Leigh) and Anthony Kaczor (Piers)! Also, the otherworldly "shenanigans" that were promised were served up in abundance and the nearly 400 people in attendance got to experience the latest (and truly darkest) Mihmiverse film in a way so unique, people will be talking about it for years to come!

But, what about the MOVIE, you ask? Our verdict: brilliant! It is clear from the final film that writer/director Christopher R. Mihm accomplished everything he set out to do. "House of Ghosts" is a fitting and entertaining tribute to the films of classic horror filmmaker William Castle. The film is darker (as it should be) both literally and figuratively, the performances are top-notch, the production & lighting design and ghosts effects (and monsters) are fantastic. Congratulations to all the cast and crew for creating a wonderful piece of art and a great addition to the ever-growing Mihmiverse library!

NOTE: The marquee at the Heights Theatre reads "House of Ghost" because, as owner Tom Letness informed us, he only has four S's! And, since the marquee listed the title on both sides, this was the best compromise!

Photos, from left to right, top to bottom: a line forms outside the theater (and curves around the corner!), writer/director Christopher R. Mihm prowls the room before the film starts, the "House of Ghosts" cake from premiere first-timer Melissa Dirtzu, on-site nurse Kira Pontiff (who handed out "fear shields" to everyone in attendance) checks one of the film's creatures for signs of life!

Only ONE MORE DAY until the big "House of Ghosts" premiere! Do you have tickets?

Also, it's "Kais-mas!" Which is to say, if you're a regular listener of the Mihmiverse Bonfire Podcast, you would know that "Kais-mas" refers to monster-of-all-trades Michael Kaiser's birthday—which is today! Happy birthday/merry "Kais-mas," Michael!

Speaking of the Mihmiverse Bonfire Podcast, hosts Rhuby 'n' Hater, along with perma-sidekick Christopher R. Mihm, have decided to push the release of Mitch Gonzales' episode to mid-June. The reasons for this were twofold: we just released over four hours of very entertaining supplemental podcasts (which we don't want to minimize in any way) AND, we've decided to add a little "post premiere wrap-up" to the forthcoming episode. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause BUT, when it is finally released, it will all be worth it!

We hope to see you at the premiere!

Screening update! Due to the diva-like demands of the big Hollywood studios, the drive-in premiere of "House of Ghosts" at the Hi-way 18 Outdoor Theatre has been rescheduled! The original screening date was Saturday, May 26th. The new DATES (yes, plural!) are now June 15th and 16th. Make sure to update your calendars and visit the events page for the most up-to-the-minute information about all future screenings and events!

We're behind schedule!

At least, we are when it comes to posting the latest Mihmiverse Bonfire Podcast! With all the preparations still remaining for the big "House of Ghosts" premiere coming up in a week (!), some things have "fallen by the wayside"—specifically, the Mitch Gonzales episode of the podcast. Rest assured, we are nearing completion on it BUT, it will be late. To tide you over, we just posted three (yes, THREE) supplemental episodes for you to check out, including:
  • Bob & Rob - a conversation with superfans Bob Arndt and Rob Wartick, the pair best known for their multi-part behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of "Attack of the Moon Zombies."
  • No Brand Con - a recording of a panel discussion about making films on a shoestring budget recorded on Saturday, May 5th at No Brand Con in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
  • Tori - a short discussion with superfan and all-around Mihmiverse helper (and frequently heard podcast voice), Tori Fox.

QUESTION: What's big, has eight legs, and will be coming out in 2013?

The Giant Spider
ANSWER: Christopher R. Mihm's NEXT film, "The Giant Spider!"

With less than two weeks before the big "House of Ghosts" premiere, writer/director Christopher R. Mihm is already hard at work on his next film, "The Giant Spider!" For now, details are being kept under wraps but, with a title like that, one thing is certain: Mr. Mihm's next film will most likely involve a gigantic arachnid doing something mind-numbingly (and 1950s-B-movie-appropriately) terrifying!

Though we know very little beyond the title, we've already been given permission to restart the associate producer program! If you're interested in directly contributing to the production of this film (and get some REALLY great stuff out of the deal), visit the merchandise page for more information on how you can become an associate producer, see YOUR name on the big screen, and become a permanent part of Mihmiverse history!

ALSO, the world premiere of each subsequent Mihmiverse film has sold out faster and earlier every year. Thus, it is worth noting that for every $50 contributed, associate producers receive two complimentary tickets to the film's premiere—which is to say, the absolute BEST WAY for a person to GUARANTEE admission to a premiere is to become an associate producer!

SO, don't hesitate! There's no time like the present!

Wednesday, May 2, 2012

The May issue of the Mihmiverse Monthly, the official newsletter of the films of Christopher R. Mihm, has just been posted!

This month features the latest Mihmiverse-related news, an interview with associate producers Jim and Becky Stephens, another classic movie of the month (1968's "The Green Slime"), and three guest written columns including Monster Hits! with Mike Cook (Gustav/Dr. Edwards), Puzzlin' with Sid from wordsmith Sid Korpi (Administrator Ripley), and another tasty recipe From the Mihmiverse Test Kitchens with Stephanie Mihm (Rosemary)!

Click HERE to read the latest Mihmiverse Monthly right now!

If you'd like to be notified when we post our monthly newsletter, sign our guestbook above and make sure the "I want to receive updates..." box is checked!

ALSO, since so many people are unable to attend the "House of Ghosts" premiere, the film will screen at the New Hope Cinema Grill for a special "dinner-and-a-movie" event!

Located in a suburb of Minneapolis, the New Hope Cinema Grill is a full-service restaurant (with three showrooms) that offers a variety of entertainment, including movies, live standup comedy, sporting events, and the latest film from writer/director Christopher R. Mihm! The New Hope Cinema Grill is also one of the select establishments serving Surly beer on tap!

This screening of the newest Mihmiverse film is in the perfect setting for the whole family. For only $15.99 a ticket, you'll be treated to a screening of "House of Ghosts" and a kid-friendly pizza/salad/pop buffet. PLUS, alcoholic beverages will be sold on-site to make the evening that much more enjoyable for those inclined to partake in adult libations!

A Q 'n' A with writer/director Christopher R. Mihm and a few of the actors and behind-the-scenes folks from the film will follow the screening. DVDs and other merchandise will also be on sale at the event.

Advance tickets are now available! Visit the events section of the merchandise page to order yours right now! Much like the "House of Ghosts" premiere, tickets to this event will sell quickly, and the New Hope Cinema Grill only holds 150 people—The Heights Theatre, by comparison, holds 400. Don't wait, or you'll risk missing out AGAIN!

If you're one of the lucky people who got tickets before they sold out, you'll have the opportunity to own the film before anyone else!

However, if you're unable to attend the premiere, you can pre-order the DVD RIGHT NOW by visiting the DVDs section of the merchandise page. All pre-orders will ship on or around May 23rd, 2012.

This month features the latest Mihmiverse-related news, an interview with associate producers The Bougneit Family, another classic movie of the month (1959's "The Monster of Piedras Blancas"), and three guest written columns including Monster Hits! with Mike Cook (Gustav/Dr. Edwards), Puzzlin' with Sid from wordsmith Sid Korpi (Administrator Ripley), and another tasty recipe From the Mihmiverse Test Kitchens with Stephanie Mihm (Rosemary)!

ALSO, regarding yesterday's update: April Fools! Mr. Mihm would NEVER allow his films to be remade in color! AND, the results of this year's Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards are in and, sadly, "Attack of the Moon Zombies" DID NOT win for Best Independent Production. It did, however, receive an honorable mention—so that's something!

Sunday, April 1, 2012

We've just received word that writer/director Christopher R. Mihm was offered AND has accepted a very large, very lucrative deal to REMAKE all seven on his films! BUT, the deal comes with a few important stipulations that will change the face of the 'verse in many shocking ways!

Here are the details:
  1. All of Mr. Mihm's films will be REMADE.
  2. All of his films will be remade IN COLOR.
  3. All of his films will be remade in a modern style.
  4. All of his films will be released internationally.
  5. All of his films MUST BE rated AT LEAST PG-13 by the MPAA—but written and shot so that they can be re-edited into hard R and NC-17 versions.
Mr. Mihm will not be writing, directing, or editing these films but will be listed as an associate producer AND the original versions will be indefinitely shelved. The deal will be finalized on May 1, 2012 and, after that date, DVDs of the original versions will no longer be available for retail or online purchase and this website will be taken offline.

Yes, this news is very shocking BUT, ultimately, this could be positive because it means that the Mihmiverse can FINALLY enter the consciousness of the mainstream! Congratulations, Mr. Mihm, you've finally sold out and we, your ever-faithful servants for the last seven years here at SaintEuphoria.com, the online home of the films of Christopher R. Mihm, hope you rot in hell for destroying our beloved universe all in the name of the almighty dollar!

Happy Monster Day!
Happy Monster Day!

On this date six years ago, "The Monster of Phantom Lake" held it's world premiere at the Heights Theatre to a near-sold-out crowd. As soon as it was released, the film began to receive positive press and, to this day, still garners great reviews. It continues to screen all over the world and has appeared in over a dozen film festivals and earned numerous awards.

Dubbed "the little movie that could," "The Monster of Phantom Lake" is where the Mihmiverse officially began, introducing the ever-growing fan base to such staples as the Jackson family, "A-Rockin', A-Rollin', All the Way A-Ramblin'," the Canoe Cops, the "flashlight thing," and much, much more!

Just remember, without "The Monster of Phantom Lake," we would never have been introduced to this enduring and ever-expanding universe! So, don't forget to tell everyone you know, "HAPPY MONSTER DAY!" And... maybe encourage them to check out the entire Mihmiverse catalog!

Now for something COMPLETELY out of left field!

We've just added a new, extremely unique experience to this website: "Danny Johnson and the Lucky Coin," a Mihmiverse interactive adventure game set in the Wisawa caves and starring the character of Danny Johnson from "Terror from Beneath the Earth!" This online "text adventure" is presented in a style similar to classic 1980s-era Infocom interactive fiction games like "Zork."

As the story of "Danny Johnson and the Lucky Coin" begins, we find ourselves three years after the events depicted in "Terror from Beneath the Earth." Danny is a little older, a little taller, and a heck-of-a-lot braver. Though his dad and Rosemary (now his stepmom) did all they could to save him, Danny knew the real reason he'd survived that fateful day: he had his lucky coin when he entered those caves. Sadly, in the hullaballoo of that crazy event, he dropped it somewhere inside. Now, he wants it back... and nothing is going to stop him!

In "Danny Johnson and the Lucky Coin," you'll assume the identity of the title hero, venture into the Wisawa caves, and try to retrieve Danny's lucky coin. This interactive story will take you deep into the Wisawa caverns, where you'll come up against mind-bending puzzles, mutated monsters, and the very history of the Mihmiverse itself!

"Danny Johnson and the Lucky Coin" was written and programmed by writer/director Christopher R. Mihm. To access the game, click HERE.

NOTE: You MUST have JavaScript enabled in your browser for "Danny Johnson and the Lucky Coin" to work!

This exciting issue includes a year-in-review, a special look at the "Open House of Ghosts" event, an interview with associate producer James Hollaman, another classic movie of the month (1959's "The Alligator People"), and three guest-written columns, including Monster Hits! with Mike Cook (Gustav/Dr. Edwards), From the Mihmiverse Test Kitchens with Stephanie Mihm (Rosemary/Dr. Rutherford), and A Mihm-i-Course in Esperanto, an introduction and primer for the Esperanto language written by George Baker, one of the main linguists who translated "Attack of the Moon Zombies" into this fascinating man-made language!
